What to look for around TRY,

Lira is expected to remain under strong pressure in the near future. While the wider sentiment around EM FX has an impact on TRY, domestic drivers will also cooperate with the price action. Among these factors are the ongoing uncertainty about the possibility of repeating the mayoral elections in Istanbul, threats of US sanctions for the purchase of the Russian missile defense system and progress in the implementation of recently announced structural reforms, conditio sine qua non for the beginning of a lasting economic recovery and return of confidence to both currency and country. In addition, TRY may observe some acceleration in the pace of sales, as market participants are still adapting to the recent dovish CBRT message.

USD / TRY key levels / At the moment, the pair is gaining 0.17% at 5.9337 and facing another barrier at 5.9796 (highest level 2019 in April 25) delegated by 6.2277 (high monthly on October 4, 2018) and finally 6.5497 (high September 13 2018). On the other hand, a break below 5.8315 (200-hour SMA) will open the door to 5.7263 (21-day SMA), then 5.7094 (low April 17).
