This is the very basic thing to know.
aud/USD is a pair in this pair there are two currencies one is aud and the other is USD. Here EUR is the base currency and USD is the counter or quote currency . By this wr mean that how much unite of counter currency are required to buy one unit of base currency.

In pair which currency is first this called base currency. When you open buy order then you buy base currency. So when you think that market going to bullish then you should buy base currency. From my experience in forex trading a trader should be deeply analysis to take correct trading decision.
