"when people say treat it as a business they mean: do your research, have a plan, be as systematic as possible, leave emotions out of the equation,...
no need for a business degree there.
How much funds do you need?
depends on your system, how much money you need to live on, how much you want to leave in your account for further compounding and how much taxes you need to pay.
ROI is never forecastable, in no company can you accurately forecast future ROI. Having ROI targets is generally a mistake, cause you can't "force" the market to give you profits. I pay myself once a year after I paid my taxes.
These are just assumptions: Your post seems to suggest that you haven't found a consistently profitable system yet (if that is wrong, then I am sorry for that assumption). If that is true, then your questions are still way too early to even think about.
Even if you found one, you should take a couple of years with that system to build up your account size to a really comfortable level before quitting your day job. You need to think about what happens if one or two years are losing years? You got the money to get by in those years?
And of course, never ever borrow money to get your trading business started. That's a sure way to get into some serious personal debt or even bankruptcy"
