to understand leverage you have to understand lot first, with each standard lot there are 100000 unit of currency, when you but 1 std lot eurousd you are buying 100000 euro against usd with your capital,
Now say you dont have 100000 in your account, so in real you are unable to to buy 100000 euro, here leverage helps, with 1:500 leverage you have the cability to but 500 unit with 1 dollar ,

well this is right big leverage is big success but for doing this you need good analysis of market, without learning nothing is possible in this market. forex is very huge field you need a good strategy before using real account......

As for as my knowledge is concerned we can change the leverage in each trade, so try to keep low leverage as it is best strategy to earn well.
