Technical analysis
Dear member focuses on chart patterns and indicators to predict the possible movement of price. This is the focus of this app. Technical analysis states that all the data you need can be found in the charts and price movement. Since forex (and any other financial trading systems like the stock market, commodities, etc.) is forward-looking, all the information is and will be factored in the price movement (charts) already. They believe that price movement is simply the play of supply, demand, and mob psychology and everything can be seen in the charts.Price movements and charts are always changing thus technical analysts usually hold their positions shorter and are called traders. Traders can either be Day Traders (hold position within a day), or Swing Traders (hold position for days to weeks or even months but never years).
There are traders who use both types of analysis use fundamentals to know what to buy or sell, and technical analysis can be used to "time" the market, or the "when" to buy and sell.
The question is which type of analysis is the most effective? Well, there is no right or wrong answer here. Some people found success using fundamental analysis alone, some people technical analysis alone, and still some people both. Some people simply cannot find logic in doing technical analysis, while some made regular income trading.
There is really no right or wrong here. I used to do fundamental analysis in forex but found no success with it. I turned off the news and focus on the charts and I saw my stats got better.
Fundamental analysis
involves trading the underlying news that may cause a currency to strengthen or weaken. They look at economic figures such as GDP results, interest rates, US Nonfarm payroll (or the employment rate outside the agriculture industry), CPI (consumer price index - inflation), among others. You can check out DailyFX.com for all the numbers including their release date and time, also the specific effect on the market.
In the stock market, using fundamental analysis involves looking at earning ratios (Price to Earning - PE), asset utilization (Return on Asset - ROA), asset size (Price to Book - PB), debt (current and quick ratios), to determine whether a stock is a good buy or not. People who use fundamental analysis usually hold their position for a long time (until the stock reaches its full potential) and thus they are called investors. The most famous investor in the stock market is Warren Buffett.
